Frequently Asked Questions

What is ear wax and why does it build up?
Ear wax is completely natural and helps protect your ears from dust, bacteria, and debris. Normally, it works its way out on its own, but sometimes it can build up and cause symptoms like blocked ears, discomfort, or reduced hearing.
What symptoms might mean I need ear wax removal?
You may benefit from treatment if you experience:
1. Reduced or muffled hearing
2. A feeling of fullness or blockage
3. Earache or discomfort
4. Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
5. Dizziness
If you are unsure, I am always happy to advise.
What methods do you use to remove ear wax?
I offer two safe and effective methods:
1. Micro Suction – A gentle suction technique that removes wax quickly and precisely.
2. Water Irrigation – A controlled flow of warm water to flush out wax.
I will always choose the most suitable method for your ears.
Is ear wax removal painful?
No – The treatment is generally painless. Some people may find it slightly unusual or feel a mild sensation, but I always work gently and at your pace to keep you comfortable.
Do I need to use Olive Oil before my appointment?
Yes, I usually recommend using olive oil drops in the affected ear for 3-5 days before your appointment. This helps soften the wax and makes removal easier and more comfortable.
If you are unsure, feel free to ask before your appointment.
Do you offer home visits?
Yes – I provide a fully mobile service, so you can have your treatment in the comfort of your own home. I cover Worksop, Retford, Carlton in Lindrick, Langold, Anston, Dinnington. I also cover surrounding areas, and I am happy to travel further afield where possible, however, an additional travel fee may apply.
Do you have a clinic location?
Yes – I run a clinic one Saturday each month at Another Level Hair & Beauty in Killamarsh. This is a great option if you prefer to attend an appointment outside of your home.
How long does the appointment take?
Appointments typically take around 45 minutes, depending on the amount and type of Wax.
Are there any side effects?
Most people feel immediate relief after treatment. Occasionally, you may feel slightly sensitive for a short time afterwards, but this usually settles quickly.
How much does ear wax removal cost?
Please contact me for current pricing, I aim to keep my services affordable while providing safe, professional care.
Is ear wax removal safe?
Yes – When carried out by a trained professional, both micro suction and water irrigation are safe and effective methods of ear wax removal.
What if no ear wax is found?
If, after assessment, there is little of no ear wax present, I will always explain this to you honestly. In some cases, your symptoms may be caused by something else, and I may advise you to see your GP or another healthcare professional.
Who should not have ear wax removal?
Ear wax removal may not be suitable for everyone. Treatment may need to be avoided or adapted if you have:
1. A current ear infection
2. A perforated ear drum
3. Recent ear surgery
4. Severe pain or discharge from the ear
